Welcome to my site! This highlights some of my work across different genres.
As a painter, I work primarily using acrylic pigments on board or card building images over a period of time. I reference photographic sources, gathered during face-to-face sittings or utilising socially shared images. I am especially fascinated by the ‘selfie’ as a new form of portraiture.
I am interested in the way that colour, line, mark and texture create an emotion or feeling.
As a gay man I am interested in redefining the idea of masculinity and the male form and my work explores the multiplicity of images and ideals we are presented with. I am interested in presenting Queer identies within the traditional framework of portraiture.
I have work in several public and private collections in the UK, Europe and the USA. I am available for commissioned portraits.

About Andy Sylvester
I trained in Fine Art painting at Grimsby School of Art and Wolverhampton Polytechnic. Since graduating I have been a teacher of Fine Art in a number of Further Education Colleges and have recently retired as a Senior Manager in FE. I have returned to my artistic practice with renewed vigour. Since then my work has focussed on portraiture, pet portraits and still life.
I have exhibited widely in both group and solo exhibitions. I have work in a number of public and private collections.
